In short: a website in two languages needs its own pages for each language, clear URLs and declared relationships between versions. Translation alone is not enough.

1. URLs per language

Romanian at the root and English under /en/ is a simple, clear structure. Avoid parameters in URLs and automatic redirects based on the browser language.

2. Hreflang

Each page declares its equivalent in the other language. Without these relationships, Google may show the wrong version.

3. Translated metadata

Titles and descriptions are translated and adapted, not left in the original language.

4. Language switcher

It must lead to the equivalent page, not to the home page. This is one of the most frequent mistakes.

5. Sitemaps and structured data

The sitemap includes both versions, and structured data respects the page language.

6. Adapted content

Examples, units and phrasing matter. A literally translated text sounds artificial.

7. Checks after launch

Track in Google Search Console whether both versions are indexed and whether hreflang errors appear.
